After practice Wednesday, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer apparently left and didn’t return, forcing his staff to prepare the team without him.

Urban Meyer is officially out as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, before news that Meyer was fired started circulating, it appears as if he took off after the Jaguars finished practice, leaving the rest of his staff to prepare for Jacksonville’s next game without any sort of leadership.

Darrell Bevell, previously the offensive coordinator for Jacksonville and now the interim head coach of the Jaguars, confirmed that Meyer left the Jaguars practice and then never returned to attend Jacksonville’s meetings.

According to Bevell, the coaching staff was left in the dark on what was going on as it seems as if Meyer didn’t provide any sort of information about what was going on to his team.

That meant the rest of the Jaguars staff prepared for Jacksonville’s upcoming game, a contest against the Houston Texans (another very dysfunctional franchise), without Meyer.

While that might make sense if Meyer had been fired at that moment or prior to that moment, it appears as if this may have been something of a regular occurrence under Meyer’s lead in Jacksonville.

According to a report from ProFootballTalk, Meyer would apparently regularly leave early. While other members of the Jaguars were committed to continue working and improving, it seems like Meyer didn’t want to be around. And now, it looks like Meyer won’t be around. He was ultimately fired late Wednesday evening, with the news coming out around 11 p.m.

The Jaguars will now need to find a replacement for Meyer. They’ll have a few different options available and maybe they’ll make the decision to go with someone who doesn’t constantly have some sort of controversy following him at every stop he makes.
