Oklahoma football: Theo Wease removes name from transfer portal with awesome tweet
Oklahoma football got Theo Wease back from the transfer portal with the wide receiver dropping a tweet declaring he’s “here to stay.”
The Oklahoma Sooners had everything thrown out of whack when head coach Lincoln Riley left for USC but things are starting to settle down with time.
Brent Venables is the new head coach. He just signed a strong recruiting class. And now players in the transfer portal are reconsidering that decision.
Wide receiver Theo Wease announced on Friday that he won’t be leaving the Sooners, instead opting to return for his fourth season with the program.
Theo Wease decided to stay with Oklahoma football
“Unfinished business,” Wease tweeted. “Here to stay. BOOMER.”
Wease was injured for most of the 2021 season but his first two seasons in Oklahoma were productive. He had 37 catches for 530 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. As a freshman in 2019, he caught seven passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
The former five-star recruit will be around to help new offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby put his stamp on the Sooners’ offense in 2022.
Oklahoma’s offense has been hit by several transfers since the end of the season. Quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Austin Stogner are heading for South Carolina. Wide receiver Jadon Haselwood is leaving for Arkansas. Offensive tackle Brey Walker and safety Jamal Morris are in the portal.
There is also still a cloud of uncertainty hanging over quarterback Caleb Williams, who will have to decide if he wants to stay with Oklahoma despite his close connection with Riley.
