Breece Hall enters NFL Draft with eye on being the first running back taken
Iowa State running back Breece Hall is heading for the pros and he has a good chance of being the No. 1 running back taken in the NFL Draft.
Breece Hall has torn up up the Big 12 with Iowa State for the last three years. Now he’s taking his talents to the NFL.
On Saturday, the Cyclones running back declared his intention to enter the NFL Draft.
“After much praying and discussion with loved ones, I have decided to forgo my remaining eligibility and enter the 2022 NFL Draft,” Hall wrote on Instagram. “While this decision has not been easy, playing in the NFL has been a lifelong dream of mine. I know that Cyclone Nation will support me and this decision. I am excited and grateful for this next step in my life.”

CBS Sports ranks Hall as the No. 2 running back in the draft behind Isaiah Spiller from Texas A&M. Pro Football Network agrees with that ranking. Dan Brugler of The Athletic fit Hall behind Kenneth Walker III and Spiller as the No. 3 back in the draft.
Now that he has declared, Hall can make his case to be the top running back selected on draft day. He’s already given NFL scouts plenty of tape at the college level.
Hall emerged on the scene as a freshman in 2019, leading the Cyclones with 897 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He also proved his pass-catching skills with 23 receptions for 252 yards and a touchdown.
Whatever the opposite of a sophomore slump is, that’s what Hall had in 2020. He led the nation with 1,572 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 5.63 yards per carry.
Hall followed up with another exceptional year in 2021, ranking sixth nationally with 1,472 yards. His 20 touchdowns were tied for the most in the country.
