Joe Burrow lost the FBS single-season touchdown record after just 2 years
Joe Burrow’s 2019 season with LSU football was unprecedented but his FBS record for touchdowns in a season didn’t last very long.
The offensive explosion in college football isn’t slowing down any time soon. So it may be time for CFB fans to accept that every time a new, ridiculous record is set, it’ll be broken in no time.
That was the case with Joe Burrow’s record for touchdown passes in a single season.
The LSU quarterback set the FBS record with 60 touchdowns during the Tigers’ 2019 national title run.
Now it belongs to Bailey Zappe from Western Kentucky.
Bailey Zappe broke Joe Burrow’s single-season TD record
Zappe broke through against Appalachian State in the Boca Raton bowl with six touchdowns. The fifth one set the new record. The sixth one extended it to 62.
That wasn’t the only record Zappe broke either. He passed for 422 yards to surpass B.J. Symons’ passing yardage record. That one fell during the first half of play and the QB was just 23 yards away from racking up 6,000 passing yards, a feat no one in college football has ever achieved.
Since Zappe is a senior, defenses in college football can take heart knowing he’ll be heading for the NFL next year. He’s definitely made a statement that NFL scouts will have to take note of.
