Vikings waive CB after wild conflict, blow-up at practice
By Ethan Lee
A messy conflict between Bashaud Breeland and multiple other members of the Minnesota Vikings has led to Breeland being cut from Minnesota’s roster.
The Minnesota Vikings are apparently making a few changes. Following what seems to be a very heated disagreement between Bashaud Breeland and a fairly significant number of coaches and teammates, Minnesota has made the decision to move on from Breeland.
According to a tweet from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Breeland got into an argument with coaches during practice. Pelissero described the incident involving Breeland and the Vikings coaches as a “verbal altercation,” which, uh, sounds pretty bad.
Breeland then removed his cleats and started arguing with teammates that were apparently trying to help defuse the situation, according to Pelissero’s tweet.
According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, the conflict began “in a defensive meeting room.” Cronin said tension between a coach and the cornerback was developed, but it’s not clear what specifically led to the disagreement.
It is not clear which coach Cronin is referring to.
According to Cronin, things chilled out as the team prepared for practice, but when Breeland was told to come off the field, things got heated again.
None of that sounds good at all.
The Vikings announced that Breeland had been cut from their roster, sharing the news on Twitter shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Breeland took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter and, well, the tweet didn’t exactly give any sort of significant insight or really explain his perspective on what happened.
Minnesota Vikings: Bashaud Breeland cut from Vikings after conflict during practice
According to Cronin, Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman had to intervene. Breeland was then subsequently cut from the Vikings.
After his initial tweet, Breeland made sure to thank the Vikings for the opportunity to play for them. Breeland also said he had “no hard feelings” and that apparently no love was lost, despite the way the whole situation ended.
The whole situation is bizarre and messy. It seems unlikely that this will be the last sort of change Minnesota needs to make.
