MLB great Miguel Tejada facing arrest warrant in Dominican Republic

Some concerning news has come in on former MLB slugger Miguel Tejada, as an arrest warrant is out for him in his native Dominican Republic. 

When he was suiting up and taking the plate at MLB ballparks, Miguel Tejada sure was an electric player. He’s got an MVP to his name and he was a six-time All-Star. However, it looks like things have taken a turn south for him since his retirement.

This weekend, news broke out of the Dominican Republic that an arrest warrant has been issued for Tejada. The reasoning? Apparently Tejada has been trying to use bad checks and things have caught up to him.

This is of course a concerning update on Tejada. It’s up in the air if he’ll end up turning himself in or not. According to Dominican journalist Roberto Cavada, Tejada is facing six months in jail for trying to use these bad checks. Goodness.

Tejada truly was a talented player while in the bigs, starting things off with the Oakland Athletics from 1997-2003. In 2002, Tejada took home AL MVP honors after hitting .308, with 34 homers and 131 RBI.

Following his days in Oakland, Tejada would then go on to suit up for the Orioles, Astros, Padres, Giants and Royals. For his career, he finished with 307 blasts and more than 1,300 RBI. While he didn’t go on to have a Hall of Fame career, Tejada will surely always be remembered for his outstanding ways with the lumber in his hands.

Now, though, he’s making headlines for all the wrong reasons and he’s facing jail time for his offenses. This really is a sad story on a former player who was known for his tremendous play, but also for being a solid teammate too.
