Duke basketball: 50 best players to play for Coach K
21. Jon Scheyer (2006-2010)
Jon Scheyer is one of very few players who had a huge impact on each of the four Duke teams he played on. In Scheyer’s freshman season he started 32 of 33 games while averaging 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, and over the course of his four seasons in Durham, he held a career average of 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
Scheyer helped Duke to an ACC Regular Season title, two ACC Tournament titles, and a National Championship, and collected a plethora of honors along the way. He earned All-ACC honors, was named to the All-ACC Tournament team twice, was named the ACC Tournament MVP, and was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 2010.
Jon Scheyer didn’t make it in the NBA after suffering an eye injury with the Miami Heat in the Summer League. He would then play in other professional leagues including in Israel, and would later join the Duke coaching staff after not succeeding professionally. He has since been named the next Duke head coach after Coach K retires following the 2021-22 season.
