Russell Wilson

If the Eagles want a clear and immediate improvement over Hurts, Russell Wilson is the guy to target. Securing Wilson’s services might be a tough thing to do and his injury history along with his age are worth considering, but he could be a significant improvement over Hurts if Philadelphia could get him.

The 33-year-old quarterback who is in his 10th season in the NFL has long demonstrated his value with his ability to precisely dissect opposing defenses. While he may not be quite as athletic as he was a few years back, Wilson is still able to effectively evade most defenders when scrambling.

This season, though he’s been hurt, Wilson has thrown for 2,302 passing yards and 16 touchdowns against four picks. In the process, Wilson completed 66.6 percent of his passes and averaged eight yards per attempt along with 8.5 adjusted yards gained per attempt.

That’s not bad.

In addition to simply being a better passer and likely better starting quarterback than Hurts, bringing Wilson in could also be the beneficial for Philadelphia from another angle.

If the Eagles can land Wilson while somehow managing to find a way to keep Hurts on their roster, that might give the young quarterback some time to sit back and learn from Wilson. Hurts could have the chance to find some ways on how he could improve as an NFL quarterback.

Wilson is an experienced veteran and he ultimately won’t be a starter in the NFL forever. Using him as an immediate improvement at the quarterback position and also a stopgap that would allow Hurts a chance to develop is the best case scenario for Philadelphia.
