Jacksonville Jaguars: David Garrard

The Jaguars haven’t really been around long enough to have a laundry list of overrated players, so David Garrard is the choice here.

To be fair though, Jaguars fans were the ones who wanted Garrard to start in 2007. He had started 10 games in 2006 and went 5-5. Fans were just tired of Byron Leftwitch, who had yet to take the next step to take the Jaguars to the next level. Garrard did well in his first season as the starter. He went 9-3 and threw 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions on the season.

The Jaguars played the Steelers at Heinz Field in the Wild Card Round, where they actually won before being eliminated by the Patriots in Foxboro the next week.

2007 would turn out to be Jacksonville’s peak under Garrard. They went 5-11 in 2008 and followed that up with a 7-9 season in 2009. The fans wanted someone other than Byron Leftwitch, but it turns out they got a quarterback who was very similar to Byron Leftwitch. Garrard was actually a Pro Bowler in 2009, but he never helped the team reach the heights they did in 2007, and they never got past the Wildcard Round until the 2017 season.
