Every NFL team’s most overrated player of all time
Philadelphia Eagles: Donovan McNabb
There isn’t a question as to who the best quarterback in Eagles’ history is- it’s McNabb. It looked like Carson Wentz would have a chance to eventually take that title until the front office binned him after one down year for Jalen Hurts, but that’s a whole story in itself.
McNabb didn’t deserve to get booed when he was drafted, and he proved that to the most miserable fan base in football soon after with his stellar play. For as good as he became very quickly into his career, McNabb didn’t win very many big games.
The Eagles lost consecutive NFC Championship Games in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. The first of which came on the road to the Rams, who still fielded that great offense of Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt, and Issac Bruce. The loss to Tampa, though, was one of the most heartbreaking in franchise history.
The Eagles were hosting the Buccaneers in the final game at Veterans Stadium. The narrative being driven all week was that the Bucs couldn’t play in the cold. It turned out that Tampa Bay could absolutely play in the cold with their fantastic defense. The final nail in the coffin was a McNabb pick-six to Ronde Barber to seal the loss for the Eagles. McNabb was a good quarterback, but he rarely won when it mattered most.
