New Orleans Saints: Marques Colston

How in the world was Marques Colston never a Pro Bowler? The No. 1 receiver in an offense in which Drew Brees was the quarterback never made it to a single Pro Bowl? That seems crazy.

Regardless, Colston was a very reliable target from year one. As a rookie in 2006, Colston caught 70 passes for over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns. The next season, he caught 98 passes for 1,202 yards and 11 touchdowns- still no Pro Bowl, good Lord.

From 2009-12, Colston had four straight 1,000 yard seasons. He had at least 70 receptions in each of those seasons, and 80 catches in three straight seasons. Colston was the lead target for Brees when the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV over the Colts.

He retired with 711 catches for 9,759 yards and 72 touchdowns. Just to put that in perspective, that’s more touchdowns than Julio Jones has in his career. He was consistent and reliable throughout his entire career, and he was a big part of the Saints becoming a Cinderella story of a team following Hurricane Katrina. While Brees and Sean Payton were the two focal points, Colston was there from the beginning of that entire process. He retired after the 2015 season.
