Watch: Florida football player incites post-game fight with UCF after loss
As if losing to UCF wasn’t ugly enough, Florida football found even more embarrassment when a Gators player started a fight after the game.
Florida football fans can look forward to a new era under Billy Napier but the 2021 season had one last indignity to bestow upon them.
The Gators lost a battle of Florida teams to UCF, 29-17, at the Gasparilla Bowl. The Knights ran all over Florida, with 288 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Apparently, the loss didn’t sit too well with a player or two. As the teams milled around on the field after the final whistle, a scuffle broke out.

A close-up view and Russian commentary add to the scene.
When you’ve already taken an L, the worst thing to do is to add to the embarrassment with a midfield fight.
Florida was in a tough spot entering the game with an interim head coach after a disappointing season that ended with a firing. Still, they were favored over UCF by a touchdown, so the frustrated response fits. It’s just the wrong way to express it.
The Gators scored first and had a 10-9 lead going into halftime. However, the Knights turned things on in the second half. They scored the final 13 points of the outing.
Gus Malzahn ended his first season in charge at UCF with a 9-4 record and victories over in-state rivals like South Florida and Florida.
As for the Gators, it’s up to Napier to figure out how to get those same players to fight harder during games rather than after them.
