Le’Veon Bell fires back on Twitter at fans trolling him for signing with Buccaneers

NFL running back Le’Veon Bell put off retirement to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — and he had some choice words for fans who had a problem with it.

When the Buccaneers signed Le’Veon Bell, it seemed like both parties may have finally caught a break.

The Buccaneers signed Bell after a disappointing shutout at the hands of their NFC South archnemesis, the New Orleans Saints. Although the Bucs are equipped with MVP leader Tom Brady, the quarterback virtually had no one to pass to: Mike Evans was injured, Leonard Fournette was injured, and Chris Godwin experienced a season-ending injury. Entering a critical Week 16, the Bucs have Antonio Brown and no pass-catching backs until they signed Browns’ former Steelers teammate, Le’Veon Bell.

Bell has his own disappointing journey following his bitter departure from the Steelers. Seeking better compensation for his talents, Bell left the comfort of the Steelers offensive line to wither away with the New York Jets. Bell was then traded to the Chiefs shortly before the Super Bowl, where they lost at the hands of the Buccaneers, then signed with the Ravens this October before being released. Although Bell never returned to his pre-holdout form, the Buccaneers are hoping to lean on Bell and survive the playoffs — and maybe, finally, Bell will get the ring that eluded him last season.

But Bell didn’t exactly experience a warm welcome to Tampa Bay, to which he had a cutting response.

Bell’s decision to sign with Tampa Bay was a surprising one for several reasons. Tampa Bay seemed to land another star running back in hopes of turning around his career. The Bucs signed veteran Lesean McCoy, who was crucial in leading the RB room last season as the team advanced toward a Super Bowl. The Bucs also signed Fournette, who was once considered “disrespectful and selfish” by a Jaguars executive.

Perhaps the Bucs could turn Bell into the next “Playoff Lenny” — but if the Bucs didn’t sign him, Bell apparently had other plans.

While NFL fans once clamored to put Bell in their fantasy football lineups, now the running back is on the last legs of his career hoping to prove himself in Tampa Bay.
