Florida WR Justin Shorter cleared to leave hospital after being carted off in Gasparilla Bowl

The family of Florida wide receiver Justin Shorter released a statement on Friday, announcing that he has been cleared to leave the hospital after being carted off in the Gasparilla Bowl.

There was a terrifying situation that took place during Thursday’s Gasparilla Bowl game between the Florida Gators and UCF Knights. Florida wide receiver Justin Shorter was carted off the field after he took a nasty hit late in the fourth quarter when attempting to catch a pass from quarterback Emory Jones.

On Friday, the Florida football program released a statement from Shorter’s family, announcing that the wideout is doing well and that he was cleared to be released from the hospital.

At the time of the injury, ESPN reported that Shorter was communicating with the team’s medical staff as he was getting carted off the field.

In the game, Shorter caught three passes for 54 yards, with his longest catch logging in at 20 yards. With the Gasparilla Bowl in the books, Shorter now finishes his junior year with 41 receptions for 550 yards and three touchdowns through 12 games.

It was a scary situation on Thursday night, but it is great news to hear that Shorter is doing well and that he will make a full recovery.
