Steelers rumors: Jalen Hurts trade makes sense

Hurts wasn’t a Nick Sirianni draft selection, so it would be easy to see the Eagles going in a different direction either via the NFL Draft or free agency. The Eagles even traded for Gardner Minshew, who impressed enough fans fans to call for him to start over Hurts.

Yet, when Hurts has gotten the opportunity to lead the Eagles offense, he’s proven himself a talent worth investing in. Hurts has 14 passing touchdowns on the year and double-digit rushing scores.

If the Eagles do shop Hurts, he’ll garner significant interest immediately.

“If they don’t want him, we’d love to have him,” one rival executive told Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press.

For Hurts to be at his best, the Steelers would have to be willing to build an offense around him, rather than treating him as an intermediary quarterback until they draft their signal-caller of the future. Is Matt Canada capable of such a scheme?

Perhaps not, but that’s not the Steelers problem. Pittsburgh could acquire Hurts for an affordable price.
