NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport gave an update on Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy’s status ahead of Week 16.

The Chicago Bears‘ 2021 season could not have gone any worse, and that spells bad news for head coach Matt Nagy, who was firmly on the hot seat entering the campaign. With the team now 4-10 and eliminated from playoff contention, just how secure is his job entering Week 16?

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Nagy’s future in the Windy City is very much in doubt. Additionally, Rapoport cited the new rule in the NFL that teams without a head coach can begin interviewing candidates on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

A loss to the Seattle Seahawks could very well spell the end of Nagy’s time coaching the Bears, if they want to get a head start in the interview process.

That new rule could force the Bears to make their head coaching decision sooner rather than later. Let’s not forget that the Jacksonville Jaguars are a team in need of a head coach after they fired Urban Meyer, and they already have a list of candidates they want to interview.

For Chicago, it is a rather simple question. Is Nagy the head coach that can help lead quarterback Justin Fields to great heights? That will be a huge determining factor for the Bears, since they surrendered a huge package of draft capital to the New York Giants to trade up and select him with the 11th-overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

The Bears are entering their Sunday afternoon game shorthanded at the quarterback position. Fields was ruled out due to an ankle injury, while Andy Dalton is inactive with a groin injury. That leaves third-string quarterback Nick Foles as the starter for Chicago, with Ryan Willis backing him up.

Bears fans, you may receive an official answer regarding Nagy’s status with the team as soon as the end of Chicago’s game against Seattle.
