Chiefs’ Clyde Edwards-Helaire leaves Steelers beatdown with injury
Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was a force as Kansas City beat down the Steelers but he left the game with a worrisome injury.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs made sure almost right away that the Pittsburgh Steelers would have virtually no shot at picking up a win on Sunday in Arrowhead Stadium. And it was running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire that helped get the work started with a monstrous touchdown run.
With the game well out of hand in the second half, though, Edwards-Helaire was still fighting hard through contact. Unfortunately, that might’ve ended up being quite costly.
After a big collision, the Chiefs running back went to the sidelines where he was diagnosed with a collarbone injury and was then listed as questionable to return.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire injury update: Broken collarbone would mean long recovery
Depending on the severity of Edwards-Helaire’s collarbone injury, this could be a tough blow for the Kansas City offense.
While nothing is confirmed yet, if the former first-round pick suffered a broken collarbone on the play, that’s an injury that traditionally necessitates at 6-8 week recovery time, which would mean he would be in danger of missing the entirety of the playoffs.
Again, we’ll have to wait and see just how bad the injury is for CEH but, in the worst-case scenario, it could potentially be season-ending for the back.
If there’s a silver lining, the Chiefs do have solid depth at running back as both Darrel Williams and Derrick Gore have performed quite well throughout the year, including when Edwards-Helaire missed time earlier in the season.
