With the way the Las Vegas Raiders need a reset, it’s likely time for them to move on from quarterback Derek Carr as they move forward.

Derek Carr has been a pretty solid quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders throughout the majority of his career. That said, Carr may not be the Raiders best option for their future. The 30-year-old quarterback is an above-average starter in the NFL, but he’s not getting younger and his contract is a little expensive.

Still, he could also be worth a lot to a franchise that is in need of a quarterback to help round out their roster and help their team make a run in the playoffs.

If the Raiders are looking to hit the reset button on their franchise, that likely means Carr will get caught up in some changes. If that happens, here are a few potential options for the Raiders, at least for the short term.

Las Vegas Raiders: 3 potential replacements for Derek Carr

Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns

There is absolutely no guarantee that Baker Mayfield could be better than what Carr could provide for the Raiders.

None whatsoever.

What Mayfield could provide for Las Vegas would be a reliable stopgap as the franchise works to figure out what direction it wants to go in. Mayfield could step in and help be a bridge for this team until it has a better, long-term option figured out.

Up to this point in his career, Mayfield has played in 59 games and has thrown for 13,940 yards and 90 touchdowns, which isn’t the best ever, but it isn’t bad at all.

Mayfield is a pretty athletic guy and, when needed, can extend plays by scrambling. However, Mayfield’s tendency to toss interceptions and his injury history are two things that team that is potentially interested in him will need to consider.

But, if the Raiders feel the need to restart, there are worse options available. There are also potentially better choices as well.
