WWE Raw: Go-home show for Day 1 PPV feeling effects of COVID
The WWE Raw go-home show for the Day 1 PPV was supposed to have several angles that have now been scratched with big superstars pulled due to COVID.
WWE Raw live from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI on Dec. 27 is the go-home show for the Day 1 PPV set to take place on Saturday, Jan. 1. Naturally, that would normally mean big angles to send us to the big event on the weekend featuring champions like Big E and Becky Lynch, as well as the superstars they’re facing.
That, however, is not going to be the case in the Motor City after a number of performers were pulled off of house shows and Raw itself heading into Day 1 as the red brand’s roster has been hit hard by COVID-19.
Throughout the past week, multiple top-level superstars were pulled from the company’s Holiday Tour of live shows, including Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Big E, and several others were taken off the card for those events and for WWE Raw in Detroit.
Which WWE superstars are off of Raw due to COVID?
Rollins, Lynch, Big E and Bianca Belair are some of the headliners regarding Raw. As for the SmackDown brand, it does appear as if Roman Reigns has been sidelined as well.
What we don’t know is how COVID is affecting these wrestlers specifically. As Dave Meltzer reported, not everyone who was pulled off the cards has tested positive for the coronavirus and many of these instances could be due to caution to maintain the integrity of the Day 1 card upcoming.
It will be interesting to see how WWE handles both Raw and SmackDown with the Omicron variant wreaking havoc throughout all other sports in the United States and otherwise. As of now, though, there have been no announcements about any changes to the Day 1 PPV card.
