Bashaud Breeland testing positive for COVID has held up the Arizona Cardinals signing him.

While the Arizona Cardinals are still likely to sign veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland, this is already getting complicated with him testing positive for COVID.

Breeland was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier in the season. He had spent the two previous seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping them get to back-to-back Super Bowls and winning the first. While the Cardinals are already playoff bound, they are clearly looking for some depth in the back-end of their defense ahead of their postseason push. How ready will they be?

Arizona faces the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington on Sunday before hosting the struggling Seattle Seahawks on the final weekend of the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals have not signed CB Bashaud Breeland because of COVID

As Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported, there were several other playoff-contending teams that were interested in signing Breeland. Though Arizona split the season series with the Los Angeles Rams, the Cardinals are one game back of Los Angeles in the NFC West standings. The Rams face the Baltimore Ravens on the road and then will host the San Francisco 49ers.

Ultimately, Arizona can feel confident heading into the final two weeks of the season, no matter what happens. The Cardinals are going to be playing on Wild Card Weekend, as they lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with the top-seeded Green Bay Packers, who will probably get the first-round bye. From there, Arizona will have to get ready to whatever NFC playoff team it faces here soon.

Breeland might be a difference-maker in the Arizona secondary, but he has to clear COVID-19 protocols first before putting pen to paper to join the Cardinals.
