Jaguars coaching candidates ranked based on who Trevor Lawrence should want
The head coaching search for the Jacksonville Jaguars is heating up, with the team requesting to interview more and more guys.
Who will end up taking over as the new head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars? With Urban Meyer long gone, fans can’t wait to see who gets the job. There’s plenty of excitement, as the team continues to request to interview candidates.
Several names have been brought up, including Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. With that said, which guy should Jaguars supporters hope signs on to take over? We’ve got our candidate rankings below for you.
6. Doug Pederson
Doug Pederson has a Super Bowl to his name, but things ended quite poorly for him with the Eagles. He’s been out of coaching since the two sides parted ways. While he’s getting an interview this week, Jags fans likely should be rooting for new blood to emerge as the head coach and not a retread, even one with a ring on his resume.
5. Dan Quinn
Over in Dallas, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is wanted for an interview by the Jaguars as well. Quinn is more of a defensive-minded coach and his exit from Atlanta was pretty disappointing.
4. Todd Bowles
What Todd Bowles has been able to do with the Tampa Bay defense has been sensational. With that said, he’s not going to be the kind of guy to excite the fan base. No one has forgotten about his miserable time as head coach of the Jets from 2015-2018.
3. Matt Eberflus
Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has never been a head coach and he’s hoping to get his shot soon. The 51-year-old assistant has really helped turn around the Indianapolis defense, but can he hire a staff that will maximize Trevor Lawrence’s potential? That’s the biggest question he’ll have to answer in his interview.
2. Kellen Moore
With Trevor Lawrence in need of a coach to really help mold him, Kellen Moore may just be the right guy to help him out. With Moore calling plays for Dallas, Dak Prescott has played his way to a monster contract, while also putting up big numbers. This was showcased in the Sunday Night Football win over Washington, with Prescott tossing for 330 yards and four scores.
1. Byron Leftwich
How about a move from Tampa Bay to Jacksonville for Byron Leftwich? The Bucs offensive coordinator has a Super Bowl to his name from last season and he’s a wanted man by teams. Leftwich is a young, rising assistant in the NFL. He’s bound to land a head coaching gig sooner than later. Jacksonville may be wise to give him a shot.
