Clemson football: Radio call of terrible Brock Purdy interception is worth another listen
By Mark Powell
Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy threw arguably the worst interception in bowl history, and we’ve seen some awful ones.
What made the Cyclones quarterback’s interception so bad wasn’t necessarily the throw, but his decision to bat it out of the air. While Purdy was surely hoping to bat the ball down to the innocent turf below, he instead gave it a second life of sorts, tipping it even higher in the air as if it were a balloon full of helium.
Despite my best efforts, that description doesn’t do Purdy’s decision-making justice. Just watch, and listen, to the Clemson radio call. They were as baffled as the rest of us watching at home.

Despite losing both defensive coordinator Brent Venables to Oklahoma, and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott to Virginia, Dabo Swinney may still find a way to pull this one off. It speaks to the depth Swinney has on his own coaching staff, and just how good of coach and recruiter he is.
While much was made of Swinney’s pending demise — and believe me, I played my role — Clemson remains 9-3 and going for double-digit wins in a so-called ‘down year’ when they lost both coordinators.
With D.J. Uiagalelei returning to school and 4 and 5-star depth across the board, Clemson is just as capable as ever heading into 2022. And even better? They get to reset in the ACC, unlike the likes of Alabama or Georgia, who must do so year after year in the best conference in college football.
Yeah, Clemson is going to be just fine in due time.
