3 Aaron Rodgers-Broncos trade scenarios that could actually work
Broncos lose secondary piece, but get Aaron Rodgers
This trade would give the Packers the best cornerback tandem in the NFL with Jaire Alexander and Surtain II. The former Alabama cornerback has been stellar in his rookie season for the Broncos. In 15 games, Surtain II has 41 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 12 passes defended, and four interceptions, including a pick-six on Justin Herbert in week 12.
Paring Surtain II with Alexander would be incredible for Green Bay. It would solidify the cornerback position, allowing the team to address other positions. Alexander is already a top-two corner in the league and Surtain II would be a perfect cornerback opposite him. Defensively, the Packers would continue to be a force. Add in Eric Stokes, and the Packers would have the best secondary in the NFC.
However, the front office has to hit on all acquisitions that concern the offense.
In addition to receiving Rodgers, the Broncos would get a third-round pick. Denver would have a second and two third-round picks to build around Rodgers. This trade also allows the Broncos to retain all of their weapons, giving Rodgers more than enough to work with. The defense may take a hit without Surtain II, but Denver has always been good at developing defensive talent.
All-in-all, Denver makes perfect sense for Rodgers. He would be entering a situation similarly to Tom Brady and Tampa Bay. Like the Broncos, Tampa Bay was a quarterback away from competing for a championship. Denver has almost all the pieces to compete, but it misses the most vital piece of all, the quarterback position.
