26. “The Snake” Ken Stabler
The Snake was part of some of the NFL’s most important moments of the 1970s. He constantly put the Raiders in position to win big games, and he always came through in the biggest moments.
Stabler is responsible for one of the most forgotten plays in NFL history, as well. He ran for a long touchdown in the 1972 AFC Divisional Round. Unfortunately for Snake, Terry Bradhsaw threw a pass that was deflected and caught by Franco Harris and the most infamous play in NFL history was born.
Stabler was a Pro Bowler the following year for the first time. He completed a league-high 62.7 percent of his passes that season. He led the NFL in touchdowns with 26 the following year and was named All-Pro, as well as winning the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
Whether it was “The Holy Roller,” “The Sea of Hands,” “Ghost to the Post,” or any of the other historical moments that Stabler was a part of, he was the leader of the Raiders throughout the decade and led them to a Super Bowl championship. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
