Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers had a very good first season together. Now they’re set to face the Purdue Boilermakers in the Music City Bowl.

While he hasn’t received a ton of recognition for all that he’s been able to do with the Tennessee Volunteers, Josh Heupel has accomplished quite a bit in his first season in Knoxville. Heupel’s offense took off in a hurry and has been able to give Tennessee a chance at competing in just about every game the Vols have played so far.

Even though the Vols had a few stumbles and only went 7-5 this season, Heupel was able to get the Vols back into a bowl game after Tennessee struggled to a 3-7 record a season ago. Now, the Vols are set to face the Purdue Boilermakers in the Music City Bowl.

The Boilermakers and their head coach Jeff Brohm also had a fairly significant bounce back season in 2021. The 8-4 record that Purdue has is the best mark it’s posted under Brohm’s leadership and that success comes after a couple of rough seasons.

Thanks to a solid offense and a pretty sound defense, the Boilermakers are also bowling for the first time in a few seasons. Purdue’s last bowl game actually came back in 2018 when they lost the Music City Bowl against the Auburn Tigers.
