The best NFL quarterback from every state
Maine: Manch Wheeler
Alright, this is laughable, but we may as well lean into it- in for a penny, out for a pound.
There have only been 27 players throughout history that were born in Maine, and only one of them was a quarterback.
Manch Wheeler played a grand total of four games in his career for the Buffalo Bills in 1962. He never threw a pass, ran for a total of seven yards, and then went on with his life. That is, quite literally, all the information we have on Manch Wheeler- the best quarterback to ever be born in Maine by default.
Maryland: Doug Flutie
Of all the players who have come from the state of Maryland, only two have been quarterbacks. Doug Flutie is the better of the two, and has one of the biggest cult followings of any player in NFL history.
Flutie had a difficult journey in the NFL. He was an 11th round draft pick in the 1985 NFL Draft out of Boston College. Many saw his 5-foot-10 frame as too small to succeed as a quarterback in the NFL.
After the 1989 season, he did a near decade-long tour in the CFL, where he proved himself as capable of playing the position. He came back with the Buffalo Bills in 1998 where he was a Pro Bowler.
