Nick Saban hypes up Brian Robinson after record-setting performance in Cotton Bowl: ‘Proud of B-Rob’

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban spoke glowingly about Brian Robinson Jr. after his phenomenal Cotton Bowl performance vs. Cincinnati.

After winning the Cotton Bowl to advance to the national championship game, Alabama football head coach Nick Saban could not have been prouder of Crimson Tide running back Brian Robinson Jr.

The Tuscaloosa native opted to return to the Crimson Tide program for a fifth season. Robinson has always been talented but had been buried on the running back depth chart behind stars such as Najee Harris and Josh Jacobs. Now that Robinson has set an Alabama bowl game record with 204 rushing yards, Saban spoke glowingly on how truly happy he is for Robinson on New Year’s.

“I’m really proud of B-Rob,” said Saban. “He’s a fine young man, and to come back to play this year, he’s really created a lot of value for himself.”

In a game where running backs typically turn pro as soon as they are eligible, for Robinson to not only stick around but wait for his day in the sun is truly remarkable. As Saban pointed out, it was going to be very difficult for Alabama to move the sticks on the vaunted Bearcats secondary. Too bad Cincinnati had no chance to slow down Robinson and the Alabama rushing attack on Friday.

Robinson’s greatest game in an Alabama uniform leaves an interesting wrinkle for how the winner of the Orange Bowl between Michigan and Georgia will go about slowing down the Crimson Tide offense. Georgia has already played the Crimson Tide, but the Dawgs still have to redeem themselves vs. the Wolverines after falling to the Crimson Tide in Atlanta earlier in December.

If Robinson rushes for half of the number of yards vs. either Georgia or Michigan in the national title bout, Alabama stands a phenomenal chance to repeat as College Football Playoff National Champions.
