Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb could return from injury by the time the playoffs begin.

Cobb was back practicing earlier this week, despite the fact he’s dealing with a core muscle injury that usually brings with it an eight-week recovery time. The veteran wideout has been through the ringer injury-wise, but his commitment to the Packers and longtime friend and quarterback Aaron Rodgers could help give Green Bay an added weapon come playoff time.

The Kentucky product has put up decent stats so far this year, with 28 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns. Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett discussed how exciting it is to have Cobb back on the field.

“Great veteran, great presence, just having him on that field with a smile on his face, you love to see it. Just the pep in his step, he misses it, he loves football. He wants to be out there so bad. Anytime you get a veteran back like that who’s helped us so much, it’s exciting,” Hackett said.

Aiyda Cobb told the inside story of Cobb’s recovery from injury, which sounds incredibly thorough and painful. Thankfully, Randall was able to get back relatively quickly, despite what was surely an invasive recovery.

The Packers have already clinched the NFC North, so they can afford to sit Cobb out until the postseason begins. There’s no point in rushing the veteran back before he is ready, especially given his injury history.

Cobb serves as a reliable threat that Rodgers feels he can rely upon. Just a few years ago, Rodgers complained that the front office wasn’t surrounding him with enough weapons, and instead drafted his replacement. Cobb is just one example of how that mindset has changed of late.
