Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom had to be carted off the field and sent to the hospital after injuring his leg during the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State’s appearance in the Rose Bowl was dampened in the first half by a serious injury to safety Lathan Ransom.

The sophomore hurt his leg during a kickoff return touchdown by Utah’s Britain Covey. Immediately, trainers recognized the extent of the injury, quickly putting an air cast around his left leg.

The entire Buckeye team surrounded Ransom to lend him support as a cart took him off the field.

Utah fans also gave him an ovation as he left the field.

ESPN’s broadcast updated Ransom’s status saying he was taken to nearby Huntington Hospital to get x-rays on his leg. His family was in the stands and they were able to accompany him.

Ransom played in all 12 games this season for Ohio State, totaling 38 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.

This was undoubtedly the last way anyone wanted to see his season end.

Ransom joined the Buckeyes as a four-star prospect in the class of 2020 out of Tucson, Arizona.
