Did NFL rig Chiefs loss to the Bengals?
The Chiefs were called for some soft, questionable penalties in the final minute of their loss to the Bengals and you have to wonder if the fix was in.
After the Kansas City Chiefs jumped out to a big lead on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, the club seemingly took their foot off the gas and had trouble finding it again. That came back to bite them as Cincinnati erased a 28-14 deficit and had the game tied at 31 for the six minutes of the game.
It was in the final minute when things got a bit ticky-tack though. The Bengals drove down deep into the red zone and had the opportunity to make a play that would win the game. But when it got to fourth down, they took a gamble to go for the touchdown instead of the field goal.
But with offsetting penalties giving them another shot on a busted play and then getting a fresh set of downs after the Chiefs committed another infraction, they ran out the clock to kick the game-winning field goal.
After the loss, Kansas City fans were ready to say the NFL was against them and had the fix in for the loss.
Chiefs were hurt by late penalties, but the loss was far from rigged
Unfortunately, anyone crying about getting jobbed or the game being rigged is way off-base in this case.
If the NFL was going to rig a game, why in the world would they take one of their most marketable teams and stars (Patrick Mahomes) and put their chances at a No. 1 seed in the AFC in jeopardy? If anything, that would be a more feasible argument if the Bengals had some 50-50 calls go against them — but even that would be a stretch.
Fans love to get up in arms about rigged games and getting jobbed but, more often than not, it’s just the sting of the loss manifesting in being mad about something that was just, more or less, the breaks of the game.
