Will Aaron Rodgers play in Week 18?
Will Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers play the final week of the season against the Lions after Green Bay clinched the No. 1 seed?
The Green Bay Packers are on the verge of clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a big lead over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
The question now turns to Aaron Rodgers and whether Matt LaFleur will risk him in the final game of the season with nothing to play for.
Will Aaron Rodgers play in Week 18 vs. Lions?
He probably shouldn’t.
The Packers have wrapped up the NFC and they don’t need to risk starters playing the Lions.
The only argument for playing has to do with keeping up a rhythm. Green Bay has won four games in a row and they could be tempted to keep the winning ways going.
Still, there is always the possibility of injuries. If Rodgers were to get injured in that meaningless game, LaFleur would never hear the end of it.
Rodgers has sat out an end-of-season matchup with Detroit before. Matt Flynn stepped in to lead the Packers to a win in 2012 with the starter resting for the playoffs.
The only impact the result of this year’s game might have is on the draft order. The Jaguars are in line for the No. 1 overall pick but the Lions could still get that pick if they lose to Green Bay while Jacksonville pulls off a win over the Colts.
