Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Jadeveon’s bone-headed shoe throw resulted in the Pittsburgh Steelers scoring a touchdown.

Someday, football players will figure out that nothing good ever comes from throwing a shoe.

The Browns suffered on Monday Night Football because Jadeveon Clowney apparently wasn’t paying attention when Florida literally lost a game because of a shoe throw against LSU.

After Chase Claypool was stopped short of the marker on third-and-10, the Steelers got a new set of downs when Clowney pulled off the receiver’s shoe and threw it.

He went full Marco Wilson. Never go full Marco Wilson.

The unsportsmanlike conduct call on Clowney resulted in a 15-yard penalty and first down for Pittsburgh. Three plays later Ben Roethlisberger hit Diontae Johnson for a five-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

Clowney sure must have felt like quite the clown at that point.

The moral of the story is very simple: Don’t throw shoes.

It shouldn’t be so hard for athletes to grasp this simple concept, yet the mistake keeps getting made. And it keeps costing teams in big ways.

There are a lot of reasons the Browns have a losing record this season. Plays like that are a definite contributing factor. Until they stop, Cleveland’s football purgatory is likely to continue.
