USC football fans sound confident that Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams will follow Lincoln Riley to Los Angeles now that he’s in the transfer portal.

As soon as Caleb Williams announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, USC football fans threw a party.

The former five-star quarterback committed to play for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma. He thrived under him as a true freshman starter. And when Riley left the Sooners for USC, people immediately wondered if Williams would end up transferring.

Now he’s in the portal. He hasn’t made a decision and he’s made it clear he’s simply exploring his options, but USC fans think it’s a done deal.

Oklahoma fans were imagining the same scenario differently.

Meanwhile, the media at USC was just bracing for the social media war between Trojans and Sooners to escalate.

Williams is the biggest name in the transfer portal and he’ll be pursued by just about everyone in need of a quarterback. Teams with an established starter returning could make a run at him as well.

So it’s certainly not a sure thing he will land with Riley when it comes down to it.

Still, the confidence displayed by Trojan fans makes some sense. Williams wanted to play for Riley because he values his proven ability to put quarterbacks into the NFL. If that draw was enough to get him to Oklahoma despite offers from programs all over the country, it should give the USC coach an inside track to getting him this time as well.

Williams intends to spend some time making his decision, so this should be wild ride for college football over the next few weeks.
