The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will face the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in a rematch in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game way outside of the southeastern footprint.

The College Football Playoff National Championship Game will be between the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs.

This game is a rematch of the SEC Championship Game, one where Alabama proved victorious over the previously undefeated Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide earned the No. 1 seed and handled the No. 4 Cincinnati Bearcats in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic to advance. As for Georgia, the Dawgs obliterated the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines in the Capital One Orange Bowl to move on.

So with Alabama and Georgia meeting for a second time on the gridiron this season, where will the national title bout be played out?

College Football Playoff: Where is the National Championship Game?

The 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. While Lucas Oil Stadium is not home to a New Year’s Six Bowl game, Indianapolis is a tremendous event city and is more than capable of welcoming two rabid southeastern football fanbases to the midwestern metropolis.

As with the NFL‘s Super Bowl, the national title game is picked out years in advance. Sometimes, it is played in one of the New Year’s Six Bowl sites. Other times, it goes to cities that have a proven track record of holding events. This is why national title bouts can be played in major cities like Indianapolis, Tampa and even Las Vegas in the future. A champion will be crowned in Indiana.

Opening kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will be at 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 10.
