Texas A&M’s offense will have one of their most important playmakers back in 2022 with receiver Ainias Smith opting to return for his senior season.

Texas A&M finally broke through with a win over Alabama in 2021. Eyes are now set for even more in 2022, including those of wide receiver Ainias Smith.

Smith announced on Wednesday that he has decided to return for his senior season with the Aggies.

In a tweet, Smith thanked God, his family, coaches and teammates. Then he turned his attention to the Texas A&M community.

“To my new family, The 12th Man, y’all have accepted me for who I am and pushed me to go hard. Because of y’all, I want to grow and better myself as a player and a leader,” Smith wrote. “With that being said, I’ve decided to come back for my senior year to represent this program one last time. Let’s go get a Natty!! Gig’Em.”

Smith led Texas A&M with 47 receptions and six touchdowns as a junior. His 509 receiving yards were second on the team. He was integral to the Aggies upset over Alabama with two touchdowns and 85 yards on six catches.

In fact, Smith has made it a habit to turn up big against the Crimson Tide. He scored twice and racked up 123 yards in the matchup in 2020. As a sophomore that season he accounted for 10 touchdowns with six through the air and four on the ground.

Along with his receiving ability, Smith is also a weapon on special teams. He was second in the SEC with 259 yards on punt returns and returned a punt for a touchdown against South Carolina.
