Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has the chance to break Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yards record.

In the final week of the 2021 regular-season, the Los Angeles Rams have the opportunity to win the NFC West title for the first-time since 2018. They can do so with a victory over the San Francisco 49ers. But, one player in particular has the chance to make history.

Wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been the star of the Rams offense and his play has put him n consideration for the NFL MVP award. In Week 18, Kupp has the chance to break Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yards record.

How many receiving yards away is Cooper Kupp from breaking Calvin Johnson’s record?

Kupp is 136 yards away from breaking Johnson’s receiving yard record. Through 16 games, Kupp recorded 1,829 receiving yards and 138 receptions on 184 targets.

Back in 2012, Johnson recorded 1,964 receiving yards in 16 games with the Detroit Lions. Johnson did so while catching 122 passes on 204 targets. He broke the record previously set by 49ers great Jerry Rice, who put up 1,848 receiving yards back in 1995.

Kupp has the chance to break the record thanks to the NFL adding a 17th game to the regular season. He is facing a San Francisco defense that has surrendered an average of 227.3 receiving yards per game, the eighth-fewest in the league. Not to mention, the 49ers are fighting for their playoff lives, as a win over the Rams can help them clinch a Wild Card berth.
