The big changes for the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason will now include the team looking for a new general manager.

While Pittsburgh Steelers fans have been getting ready to say goodbye to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, they’ve also got to get ready for a future with someone else as well: Kevin Colbert.

On Sunday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the longtime general manager of the team will be stepping down from his post after the 2022 NFL Draft. Colbert first joined the organization way back in 2000, taking over as GM in 2010.

Kevin Colbert will be stepping down as GM of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Colbert has had a long and successful run with Pittsburgh, which includes winning two Super Bowls with the team. A Pittsburgh native, Colbert has done fantastic things with his hometown team.

Now, though, he’s ready to let someone else have the keys to the car and get the Steelers back to the postseason. So, who will end up taking over? Already, Omar Khan’s name has been mentioned as Colbert’s potential successor.

This would make a ton of sense, as Khan is currently the team’s vice president of football and business administration. Khan has been linked with other GM jobs before, so now that the job in Pittsburgh will be open, it’d be wise for the Steelers to keep Khan in town for a position he’s long desired.

There’s plenty of changes coming for the AFC North side, but fans have been calling for it. Barring a miracle, it’s looking like the Steelers will miss out on the playoffs this year. While Roethlisberger hasn’t made things official, he’s expected to officially announce his retirement soon. After that, the team will then have to shift its focus to finding Colbert’s replacement as well.
