What Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett said after Georgia wins national championship
By Scott Rogust
Here is what Kirby Smart and Stetson Bennett had to say after the Georgia Bulldogs finally conquered the Alabama Crimson Tide to win their first National Championship in over four decades.
The Georgia Bulldogs had their fair share of heartbreak when playing the Alabama Crimson Tide. From the 2018 CFP National Championship Game and this season’s SEC Championship Game that handed Georgia their first loss of the season. But now, the Bulldogs finally got their revenge over the Tide.
On Monday night, Georgia defeated Alabama 33-18 to win the program’s first National Championship since 1980.
Head coach Kirby Smart not only won his first title as a head coach, but he defeated Nick Saban for the first time head-to-head. After being presented with the CFP National Championship trophy, Smart paid homage to legendary Georgia sports announcer Larry Munson.

Bennett spoke to ESPN’s Holly Rowe after his 224 passing yards and two touchdown performance helped Georgia secure their biggest win in 41 years.
The first half of the game was a battle between both team’s defenses, resulting in them settling for field goals. That was a completely different story in the second half, and Georgia came to life. First, they took their first lead of the game on a one-yard run by Zamir White. Then, Stetson Bennett threw an impressive touchdown pass to Adonai Mitchell to go-ahead 18-13. The lead was further extended on a 15-yard catch-and-run by Brock Bowers.
But the Bulldogs officially clinched the victory when Kelee Ringo intercepted a Bryce Young pass and returned it 79-yards for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
It was a lengthy wait for the Bulldogs and their fans, but this championship will be one that they will never, ever forget.
