Miami Dolphins fire Brian Flores; Stephen Ross offers an explanation as to why it happened

In a rather surprising move, the Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores on Monday morning, ending his tenure with the team after three seasons.
It seemed not that long ago the stars were aligning in Miami as future contenders in the NFL.
The Dolphins had a war chest of future assets to build a winning foundation with and appeared to have a solid coach leading the charge in Brian Flores. After three playoff-less seasons, however, things have changed.
Specifically, Flores’ employment status has changed.
On Monday, the Miami Dolphins added to the scrap heap of fired head coaches by parting ways with Flores. The move comes as somewhat of a surprise and has seemingly reinforced the idea that the Dolphins don’t have any idea what they’re doing.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross released on Monday morning detailing why the decision was made to fire Flores following Sunday’s win.
“I made the decision today to part ways with Brian Flores,” Ross wrote. “After evaluating where we are as an organization and what we need going forward to improve, I determined that key dynamics of our football organization weren’t functioning at a level I want it to be and felt that this decision was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins. I believe we have a talented young roster in place and have the opportunity to be much better in 2022. I want to thank Brian for his hard work and wish him nothing but the best in his future.”
The firing comes after yet another losing season, but on the heels of the Dolphins beating the Patriots to end their season. New England wouldn’t have won the AFC East thanks to a Buffalo Bills victory on Sunday but the Dolphins twisted the knife by not allowing the Patriots — or Flores old mentor Bill Belichick — the satisfaction of ending the season with a win.
