Georgia football finally can claim the National Championship Trophy as their own, but not before they take it to an odd location for a couple of days.

On a Monday night in Indianapolis, Georgia football erased decades’ worth of digs and jokes at their expense. At long last, the Bulldogs were able to get to the mountaintop of college football and defeat Alabama, the program that’s been their biggest hurdle since Kirby Smart took over, to win their first national championship since 1980.

It was a historic moment but one that many people knew had to be coming soon with the talent that Smart has been gathering in Athens. Naturally, the fans are more than enthused about it. And they’ll even have an opportunity to go see, touch and even kiss the College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy.

The venue for that opportunity, however, is a bit strange.

As reported by local news outlets, the trophy will be on display at local Walmart stores in Athens throughout the week because nothing screams the best college football team in the country like rolled back prices, right?

Admittedly, it is pretty awesome that Dawgs fans will have the opportunity to take pictures with and kiss the trophy. These fans are starved for these types of moments after 41 years without a title.

With that said, you can’t convince me it’s not odd that the fans will be able to do that and then go pick up a $5 DVD, a car battery, a grill, and deodorant.

Then again, with the long wait for another national championship for such a passionate fanbase and storied program, they would probably go to the middle of the local landfill if it meant getting to see and/or touch this piece of hardware.
