LSU football schedule 2022: Way-too-early game-by-game picks

Entering year one of the Brian Kelly era with the LSU Tigers, what will the 2022 season have in-store for LSU football?

Coming off their first losing season since 1999, the LSU Tigers enter a new era in Baton Rouge in 2022 with former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly now taking over for the Tigers.

Having struggled the past two seasons after winning the 2019 national championship, the Tigers currently enter the 2022 offseason with unknown across parts of the roster. Yes, there are a few pieces set with quarterback Myles Brennan, running back John Emery Jr., and star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, but also key areas of need at the moment, most notably on defense.

That unknown will most likely change in the very near future due to likely multiple additions soon to come from the transfer portal, but how would the Tigers fare in 2022 as of right now?

2022 way-too-early prediction: 6-6

LSU could get off to a hot start in 2022, headlined by an intriguing season-opener against Florida State right in the Tigers backyard. Aside from that contest against the Seminoles to open the year though, the Tigers’ other lone test in September comes from Mike Leach’s “air-raid” offense coming to town.

The months of October and November could be troublesome for the Tigers, beginning with a trip to Jordan-Hare, which is immediately followed by Josh Heupel’s fast-paced Tennessee offense led by quarterback Hendon Hooker coming to town. While you could make an argument that the Tigers should beat the Vols, the more-likely October win comes a week later on the road against a brand-new Florida team led by new head coach Billy Napier.

Home games against what will-be electric offenses in Ole Miss and Alabama are likely losses for the Tigers, while the immediate trip after to Fayetteville will not be any easier. LSU should become bowl-eligible in late November against UAB but are likely set for a rough finish to the regular season with a trip to College Station against what will likely be a top=five Aggies team at the time.

While it’s unknown what LSU football may fully look like at the moment, the Tigers have enough talent to at least go bowling in year one under Brian Kelly.
