NHL Twitter lost their minds at the fact that Sidney Crosby was not named to the 2022 All-Star Game./
On Thursday, Jan. 13, the NHL revealed the official rosters for the 2022 All-Star Game in Las Vegas, Nev. There were some names that were not necessarily a shock, such as Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Alex Ovechkin.
There were some Twitter users that were stunned that Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby was not only not named to the official roster, but also nowhere to be found on the “Last Man In” ballot.
Also, there is no point of having an all star game if someone of Crosby’s stature isn’t there. I know he missed time early and had a slow start. But it’s just dumb. He’s one of the best players of all time. People want to see him. That’s the point of these games.

My take is Sidney Crosby should be in the All-Star Game. If the best players in the world aren’t playing, especially when they’re scoring at a point-per-game pace, then you need a new system.

An all star game without Sidney Crosby isn’t much of an all star game.

Sidney Crosby, noted point per game player, is not an all star this year. That's the tweet. Do what you will

NHL All-Star game and Sidney Crosby isn't there... Never thought those words could ever be said

Sidney Crosby not featured on NHL All-Star Game roster
As is the argument made in the tweets above, it is a bit shocking that Crosby, considered one of the NHL’s best players this century, is not featured in the All-Star Game. However, Crosby did miss the early portion of the 2021-22 season due to wrist surgery and was sidelined five games after being placed in COVID-19 protocols.
Crosby played in 23 games this season, scoring five goals and tallying 19 assists.
As for who made the roster, McDavid, Matthews, Oveckhin and Nathan MacKinnon as captains of their respective divisions. Here is how the Metropolitan team roster looks:
- Sebastian Aho, F, Carolina Hurricanes
- Claude Giroux, F, Philadelphia Flyers
- Chris Kreider, F, New York Rangers
- Jack Hughes, F, New Jersey Devils
- Alex Ovechkin, F, Washington Capitals
- Zach Werenski, D, Columbus Blue Jackets
- Adam Pelech, D, New York Islanders
- Adam Fox, D, New York Rangers
- Frederik Andersen, G, Carolina Hurricanes
- Tristan Jarry, G, Pittsburgh Penguins
As for the “Last Man In” candidates, each team gets one candidate that can be voted in by the fans. The Penguins’ representative on the ballot is forward Jake Guentzel.
You can take a look at the full rosters and “Last Man In” candidates at the NHL’s official website.
