The last time the Las Vegas Raiders won a playoff game, they played in Oakland and Rich Gannon was the NFL MVP.

Against all odds, the Las Vegas Raiders somehow made it into the AFC playoffs this season.

The 2021 Raiders overcame so much to even get to this point. Their former head coach Jon Gruden resigned in disgrace earlier in the season. Former first-round pick Henry Ruggs III was involved in a terrifying drunk-driving accident that led to his dismissal from the team. Add in injuries and playing in a very difficult AFC West, the Raiders defied all logic to make the dance.

So now that the Raiders are in the playoffs, when was the last time they won a playoff game?

Las Vegas Raiders: When was the last time they won a playoff game?

The last time the Raiders won a playoff game, they beat the Tennessee Titans in Oakland in the 2002 AFC Championship Game. Rich Gannon was the Raiders’ MVP quarterback. Bill Callahan was the team’s head coach. The Raiders went 11-5 that season and won the AFC West. They lost to Gruden’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 37 in San Diego. So much has changed since then.

After losing to the Buccaneers in San Diego nearly two decades ago, the Raiders had made the AFC playoffs precisely once prior to this season. That came in the remarkable 2016 campaign that saw the Silver and Black go 12-4 in Derek Carr’s breakout year under then-head coach Jack Del Rio. Unfortunately, Carr broke his ankle in Week 16 and the Raiders’ hopes died on Christmas Eve.

If the Raiders beat the Cincinnati Bengals, they will face either the Tennessee Titans, the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills on the road, or potentially host the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round.
