Raiders: 3-round mock draft after wild card loss to Bengals
By John Buhler
Raiders should draft this Purdue Spoilmaker wide receiver in the second round
Though the Raiders have strong receiving targets with the likes of Hunter Renfrow in the slot and Darren Waller at tight end, they need to offset losing Henry Ruggs III to presumably prison. While the Raiders could go with a wide receiver in the first round and draft someone like Chris Olave, Jameson Williams or Garrett Wilson, why not wait until the second round and take David Bell?
The Purdue Boilermakers became the Spoilermakers last season, and Bell was a huge reason for that. Along with bona-fide first-round pick in linebacker George Karlaftis, Purdue became one of the toughest outs in the Big Ten last year. Bell was exceptional catching passes from Aidan O’Connell in West Lafayette. His unique game should translate very well to the Raiders offense.
Raiders needs some more Dawgs on defense, so draft this one in the third round
As with addressing the offensive line, the Raiders need to continue to build up their secondary. While they do not need to overdraft on a cornerback like they did with former Raiders defensive back Damon Arnette, the Silver and Black can potentially sit pretty and get a starter off the defending College Football Playoff National Championship team in Georgia’s Derion Kendrick.
In his lone year with the Dawgs, Kendrick flourished in the Georgia secondary. He took his big-game experience from this three previous seasons at Clemson and transformed it into exactly what the Dawgs needed vs. Michigan and Alabama in the playoff. His ball skills in the Orange Bowl were tremendous, while his coverage skills helped Georgia win its first national title since 1981.
If the Raiders go cornerback, offensive lineman and wide receiver with their first three picks this in this spring’s draft, it will go a long way towards them possibly getting back into the AFC playoffs.
