Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gave credit to the fans for throwing garbage at referees following Wild Card loss.

The Dallas Cowboys comeback attempt fell just short at the very last second, as they lost 23-17 to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round. After quarterback Dak Prescott failed to spike the football ahead of the game clock expiring, Cowboys fans actually threw garbage on the field in the direction of players and referees.

During his postgame press conference, Prescott disparaged fans for throwing bottles and other debris at teammates like DeMarcus Lawrence.

But when he was told that the garbaged being thrown towards the on-field officials, Prescott responded by saying “credit to them then.”

Cowboys: Dak Prescott credits fans for throwing trash at referees

Throwing garbage at anyone on the field is dangerous and it should not happen. It is shocking that Prescott made these comments regarding fans directing the objects towards the referees. All eyes will be on whether Prescott will be subject to a fine by the NFL.

With the Cowboys trailing 23-17 with just seconds remaining, Prescott ran up the middle to set the Cowboys up near the red zone for the potential game-winning touchdown. But with no timeouts at their disposal, the quarterback handed the ball off to his center to prepare to spike it down. The thing is, the referee has to spot the football first before moving forward with the play. By the time Prescott clocked it, the game was over.

After the game, head coach Mike McCarthy spoke about the play and whether Prescott should have handed the ball off to the umpire.

Prescott completed 23-of-43 pass attempts for 254 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and ran for 27 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

The loss will sting for Prescott, his teammates and the fanbase. But Prescott giving credit to the fans for throwing garbage at the officials will certainly get the league’s attention.
