Cowboys fans react to garbage call by acting like pure trash

Dallas Cowboys fans angry losing to the 49ers reacted in the worst possible way: By throwing trash at refs and their own players.

Sports fans are passionate. It’s a critical part of what makes sports so special.

Unfortunately, passion doesn’t always express itself in the most civilized ways. As Cowboys fans demonstrated on Sunday when they lost to the 49ers.

Some fans were so angry about the controversial ending to the game that they chucked garbage at referees and players as they ran back through the tunnel.

Cowboys fans threw trash after losing to the 49ers

At the start of the video, it’s clear some of the trash thrown was directed towards a referee. Later,  Cowboys lineman DeMarcus Lawrence had to use his helmet to deflect a bottle thrown his way as well.

It doesn’t matter who was the subject of the anger. Either way that was an unacceptable way to respond to the disappointment of an early playoff exit.

No referee or player deserves to be pelted with garbage. It’s an embarrassment to the Cowboys fanbase and organization that it happened.

Sadly, this is all too common at sporting events in recent months. Tennessee fans infamously delayed a game against Ole Miss during the fall when they inundated the field with trash. Georgia fans threw things onto the field during the National Championship game against Alabama.

The Cowboys had high hopes for the postseason but they trailed the 49ers, 23-7, going into the fourth quarter. They scored 10 points to give themselves a chance late but they ran out of time.

Controversially, Dak Prescott was unable to spike the ball to stop the clock on the final play of the game. Even if Dallas deserved one more play, throwing trash is never justified.
