Texans asking price for Deshaun Watson trade remains astronomically high

When it comes to quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Houston Texans are not lowering their asking price in trade negotiations.

The Houston Texans are set for more changes this offseason, as they fired head coach David Culley after one season. When it comes to quarterback Deshaun Watson, there is still some uncertainty, given his unhappiness with the team and with the 22 civil lawsuits for allegations of sexual misconduct. But would all of that cause Houston to lower their asking price?

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, the Texans have asked for at least five assets, including three first-round draft picks, for Watson and have no desire to lower the price in this upcoming offseason.

With this report, it will remain to be seen if any team will be willing to accept these demands to acquire the 26-year-old quarterback. There is also the factor of the legal issues and if there is any clarity on that front.

After a 2020 season where he threw for 4,823 yards and 33 touchdowns, Watson requested a trade from the team, as he had no desire to play for them anymore. Then, the legal issues came to light. Watson was spotted at training camp but was inactivated for the entire 2021 season.

The Dolphins were reportedly interested in acquiring Watson at the Nov. 2 trade deadline this season, but nothing came of it.

There are teams in need of a quarterback entering the 2022 league year, but it will remain to be seen if they will actually target Watson, based on his legal situation and Houston’s massive asking price for the signal-caller.
