Raiders DB caught driving over 100 MPH weeks after DUI charge

Las Vegas Raiders defensive back Nate Hobbs was cited for his second driving-related incident in just a few weeks.

Hobbs was arrested for DUI on Jan. 3. Just a few weeks later, he was caught driving 110 MPH on a Nevada highway.

The 22-year-old was not arrested for this offense, but he was charged with reckless driving for excess speeding in a 65 MPH zone.

It’s been a disturbing trend for young Raiders players, as Hobbs’ DUI and now citation come in the same season wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was released following an arrest for DUI causing death and substantial bodily injury and two counts of reckless driving. Last year, Vegas released then-rookie Damon Arnette for displaying a gun and making threats following a high-speed chase near the Raiders facility.

Raiders: Any potential punishment for Nate Hobbs?

Hobbs could be subject to a fine from the Raiders or the NFL, but for now he will deal with the legal process for both offenses.

Hobbs’ DUI was dubious enough, as he fell asleep in his Mercedes on a parking ramp. He wasn’t driving at the time police arrested him.

“The organization has been in communication with local law enforcement and is in the process of gathering more information,” the Raiders statement read after his arrest. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

Even then-head coach Rich Bissacia made a comment:

“I feel good about saying they’ve been hit over the face with distractions and things of that nature,” a frustrated Bisaccia said. “We’re very cognizant of the city in which we live in, so I’ll leave it at that and we’ll see what it looks like at the end of the week.”

Hobbs was a fifth-round pick out of Illinois, and registered one interception on the season.
