Braves pay homage to Hank Aaron on anniversary of death

The Atlanta Braves paid tribute to Hank Aaron on the one-year anniversary of his death.

The most important player in Atlanta Braves franchise history was Hank Aaron.

Aaron played the bulk of his legendary career with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves. “The Home Run King” won a World Series in 1957 in Milwaukee during his MVP campaign. He also hit arguably the most important home run in MLB history on Apr. 8, 1974 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Baseball’s greatest ambassador left us one year ago today a few weeks shy of his 87th birthday.

So much has happened in Braves Country since Aaron passed, and the Atlanta franchise misses him dearly.

Aaron was not the only Braves legend to pass away ahead of last season. They lost 300-game winner and knuckleballer extraordinaire Phil Niekro. While he did not pitch for the Braves, they lost another 300-game winner in Los Angeles Dodgers icon and former Atlanta broadcaster Don Sutton. Fate would have it the Braves would win their first World Series title since 1995 in 2021.

No, this was not a team that many thought could win the Fall Classic. In fact, the 2021 Braves spent most of the year hovering around .500. Not until a series of trade-deadline deals did this team get back to playing good ball. With a revamped outfield, an elite bullpen, an incredible infield and improved starting pitching, the Braves won it all. We all know Hank smiled down from above.

A year since he passed, it is hard to process baseball’s greatest ambassador is no longer with us.
