When does the 2022 college softball season start?
By Ethan Lee
The 2022 college softball season begins on Feb. 10.
As January starts to come to a close and February gets set to begin, the start of the 2022 college softball season is almost here.
Because there are so many college softball teams across the country, there isn’t necessarily a uniform schedule for every team to start play on one specific day. The opening slate of games typically happens over a few days.
And the 2022 season is getting closer and closer. Here’s when the 2022 college softball season is set to begin.
When will the 2022 college softball season begin?
For the teams at the NCAA Division 1 level, the 2022 season will get underway on February 10. Now, not everyone will be competing on that day as there are various different schedule constraints that programs must workaround. One such constraint is the weather.
For many teams, because of when the season starts, they won’t be able to play at home due to the fact that they are located in colder climates.
Many of these teams actually begin with neutral-site tournaments, such as the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (with teams like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Omaha Mavericks, and Iowa State Cyclones among the attendees) or the USF-Rawlings Invitational taking place in Tampa (with Illinois State, Michigan, and Florida among the attendees).
Notable college softball games to watch on Feb. 10
If you’re looking for a few interesting games to keep an eye on as the season gets started, you’ve got a few different options available to you.
Last season’s national champ, the Oklahoma Sooners will be on the road and facing off against UC Santa Barbara at 5:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 10. Georgia and UCF are set to play at 6 p.m. During that same timeslot, Wisconsin and Kentucky will face off.
Out on the West Coast, Ole Miss and Oregon will face off at 8 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., Oklahoma State and Arizona State will meet up in what will probably be the most interesting matchup of the day.
